Biofeedback/Neurofeedback for Performance Enhancement

Imagine listening to an orchestra that has no conductor, no common rhythm, key or melody line. That’s what goes on in the brain of a person who suffers from attention and concentration deficits, mood disorders, anxiety or learning disorders. The brain’s timing, filtering mechanisms and sensory perception centers are in a state of imbalance or dysregulation.

With Biofeedback and Neurofeedback, non-invasive sensors are used to “feed back” information about physiology such as brain waves, heart rate, body temperature, breathing patterns and sweat production. This information is translated into graphic images and fed back using graphs, sounds, or even video games to teach the body how to correct its timing, focus, and correct dysfunctional stress adaptations.

Chronic Pain, Headaches, and TMJ

Pain is meant to be a helpful signal to stop you from doing something that may be damaging to your body, but sometimes – especially in the case of chronic pain, headaches and TMJ – the pain mechanism has gone haywire, causing misery and despair.

Using a combination of biofeedback, self-hypnosis and cognitive behavioral techniques, The Peak Performance Practice can help to identify and correct postural imbalances, look at and correct dysfunctional stress adaptations and to retrain the nervous system to help with better modulation of pain sensations. The Peak Performance Practice can help you take back your life.

Stress Related Conditions

Biofeedback, along with other cognitive behavioral therapies, has been shown to effectively assist in the treatment of depression, anxiety and stress related conditions such as hypertension, IBS, and panic disorder. The tools used in biofeedback accelerate the learning of deep relaxation techniques by illustrating and reinforcing your body’s unconscious responses.

Questions about Biofeedback

Is it safe? Does it hurt?

Biofeedback is a safe and non-invasive therapy that allows you to monitor your own physiology. The sensors are attached to your skin using a gentle gel that is non-abrasive and non-allergenic. It does not hurt. Most people find biofeedback interesting and fun.

If I am taking medication for my condition, should I stop my medication in order to begin biofeedback therapy?

You should only change your medications at the instruction and advice of your medical doctor. It is our aim to work with your doctor to integrate the therapies for the best result in treatment.
